Youth Vision has been developed to provide young people aged 15-24yrs with opportunities that prepare them for their role in society and develop their potential, while at the same time facilitating and promoting positive personal growth.
Five basic competency areas have been identified which define the range of behaviours and skills needed for adult success. Youth Vision has been designed to incorporate all five of these areas.
1. Life Skills 2. Employment Skills 3. Social and Community Skills 4. Health, Wellbeing and Fitness 5. Adventure and Outdoor Education Skills |

Curriculum
1. Life Skills This includes intrapersonal skills such as ability to understand personal emotions, self-discipline and stress and anger management. Life skills such as communication, co-operation, empathizing, and negotiation skills are also addressed. Part of establishing personal and social competence is acquiring knowledge of: · Decision making and healthy choices · Self-care, self-awareness, confidence and peer relationships · Four walls of health: mind, body, spirit, family/community · Goal Setting · Living independently and basic D.I.Y
2. Employment Skills This module teaches skills needed to gain employment and retain that employment as well as understanding the value and function of work and leisure. Youth are encouraged to develop personal areas of cognitive or creative competence through: · Formal Communication / Written Skills and I.T · Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Confidentiality, Etiquette and Behaviour · Professional Development and Career Guidance · Interview Skills, CV and Cover Letter preparation and Job Search techniques · Standard office practice and procedures
3. Social and Community Skills Youth will gain an understanding of the values and history of their nation and their community through: · Social Skills, Community Relationships and Responsibilities · Environmental Awareness and Education · Study of the Community, Resources, Referrals and Networking · Cultural and Family Support · Social and Community Development 4. Health, Wellbeing and Fitness Youth will learn the value of maintenance of good health through knowledge, attitudes, and practices which will help promote future good health.
5. Adventure and Outdoor Education Skills Nature can offer an inspiring classroom outside the formal education setting. Youth will be involved in: · Outdoor education, practical skills and responsibilities · Standard safety practice · Kayaking · Tramping, and Survival training · Bush-craft, Horticulture and Rongoa (Maori medicine)
Youth Vision is designed to provide life skills, employment skills, social and community skills, health, wellbeing and fitness skills, and outdoor adventure education from a consistent strengths based approach. This will give youth tools that will enhance their key social environments as well as aid them to be an asset to themselves and the NZ community |
